On what was the warmest day of the year in England, the chilled vibes of the afternoon creative street market slowly turned into a block party in pure Bristol fashion, especially when the first band of the day took over the PA from DJ Scott Nixon.

Leopard Ale

Leopard Ale quickly got the street dancing with their sweet & jazzy raps celebrating good times and friendship with a drink in the hand…

Then local punk band Mutilated State literally ignited the street with their raw power and no fcks given. Locals no strangers to skateboarding - a session took place at the same time on the gap over bar in front of the band, while fists and legs swung in the pit.

After a few 180s and hippy jumps variations, Sam Elphinstone rolled away with a kickflip after a fierce battle and claimed the cash.

Meanwhile, the other side of the street had a mini-ramp setup by Campus, where plenty of prizes got given away for good tricks, and heated sessions were on until local Jordan Thackerey shut the session down with a front blunt on the Volcom extension at dusk…

It was then time to gather inside the venue for some more live music.

Paul White was setting there uber chill vibes in between live acts with some eclectic selection of classics mixed with some of his productions, and the heat called for lots of cold drinks.

London-based Upset Stomach, a full multi music styles experience, from grunge to more electronic bits, opened up the main stage.

Upset Stomach

Following on FuckFuckFuck took over with their party garage from Amsterdam, and soon the dance floor was wet from sweat and beers.

Fat Tony was up next and blew everyone away with his energy, rapping, dancing, and hyping everyone while monitoring his tracks on his console on a solo show. A full powerhouse from Texas – check out his new album!

Legendary UK DJ Zed Bias continued the heat and then minds got blurry, bar beer kegs all emptied and spirits high. Finally REVRT finished everyone off in true Bristol style, with some mandatory drum and bass.

3pm ‘til 3am, what a day!

About the bands

FAT TONY

Somewhere between DJ Screw and Bad Brains, De La Soul and Scritti Politti sits Houston’s native son, Fat Tony. A singular and experimentally-minded rap artist adept at both traditional regional styles and indie pop, hardcore thrash and melodic candy-painted bangers. He is punk in the platonic sense of the word: experimental and subversive, but also funny, whimsical, and virtuosic.

PAUL WHITE

Paul White started as a beatmaker from South London whose sample-heavy approach draws from unlikely sources, including progressive and psychedelic rock and post-punk. He made his name over the previous decade by sculpting wonky, psychedelic hip hop mutations, working with everyone from UK favourite Jehst to wild Detroit based Anglophile rapper Danny Brown. He now writes, performs and produces his own take on psychedelic pop music. Since then he has been writing and producing for a number of high profile artists including singer and violinist Sudan Archives, and regular collaborator Danny Brown for his recent album 'uknowhatimsayin'.

LEOPARD ALE

LEOPARD Ale is 100% bedroom-made music. From beer talks to quantum physics, the conundrums in their songs blast through the means of hip hop with a twist of surf rock and jazz. Bottoms up.
