Volcom Hot Spot // Toulouse

Toulouse, the pink city, is nicknamed after the beautiful red brick that makes the people of the city see life in pink! Ranked on top for its quality of life, vitality and youth, it combines the advantages of a big city but in a more town like athmosphere. The particularity of Toulouse is to have several neighborhoods that each one attracts different communities. This week, Luc and his team, from the Toulouse’ Volcom Store, serves us with the must-go places in the area.

Where to have a drink?

All students cluster around St. Peter's Square, along the Garonne. This is the perfect place to start your night in a bar or just chill on the afternoon.

Chez Tonton (Pastis ô maitre) is the landmark of the students and athletes where the atmosphere is always lively and friendly. Prices are inexpensive both daytime and evening and the terrace overlooking the square is very nice.

Trendy people will gather at La Couleur de la Culotte , which means the color of the pants. If you want to find out what color this is, you’ll have to go to that place in the evening. This bar is open all day, giving you the opportunity to eat lunch, have a drink at any time and prepare for the evening when DJ’s will make you dance. The interior is original and you will easily feel at home.

For a decidedly more rock'n'roll atmosphere, the place to go is Le Saint des Seins. Here plaid shirt are rigor, the speaker volume is at maximum, you don’t talk but shout and that’s why people love it.

Gabriel Peri Street is the spot where you can meet board sport lovers. Many of the bars on this street are reproducing a similar vibe to all the surfy ones that you can find on the Atlantic coast in the summer months. This is the case of Connexion-Café, which scene attracts different groups of music.

Where to eat something?

Place de la Bourse, where the Volcom Store is located, is a historical place. Tour guides always visit it and for your interest, it’s best known for all its side streets where hipsters and other streetwear friendly shoppers come.

In the district, many bars and restaurants offer original concepts as the Point d’Ogre. In this restaurant, not ogre, but only greedy gourmets. The Point d’Ogre, is the ideal place for feasting: you’ll love it for its sausages and its Southwest’ gourmet specialties.

Le Picotin is another restaurant with an original concept. At this place there’s actually no need for knives or forks: it’s all about eating with your fingers! The principle is friendly and recreational: get strapped with a large bib to avoid catastrophes, then choose at your convenience out of the great dishes brought to your table. From appetizers to dessert, you will not need cutlery.

A classic, l’Entrecôte opened in 1962 and still offers the same concept: a single dish consisting of a sirloin 250g piece accompanied by homemade chips served at will. Located in one of the main street of Toulouse city center, this restaurant offers a nice summer terrace.

Where to be True To This?

Regarding skate spots, you will not be outdone. The Skatepark of Ponts Jumeaux is the closest to the city center. Recently redone, both beginners and experienced enjoy it. In case you don’t have enough space to express yourself, many cities in the periphery will allow you to do it such as Saint-Orens, Tournefeuille, Balma or even Esqualcens.

Before hitting the streets of Toulouse you might want to pop in at the Volcom Store and update your wardrobe with some of the season’s new arrivals.

Euskaltel La Kantera Pro presented by Volcom - Day 1 Recap
Great day of skateboarding on the first day of the Euskaltel La Kantera Pro presented by Volcom. For the very first time the contest hosted a women division, and Yndiara Asp qualified first for Saturdays finals, with some tricks that some Pros would like to get in their bag. A bunch of legends such as Nicky Guerrero and Omar Hassan signed up in Masters division and local host Alain Goikoetxea made his debut in this category with qualifying in first, destroying his home park like only him knows how to. In the Pro division, qualifiers went down and the action didn t stop, skaters battled for 9 spots to join the 7 invited pros of the Saturday semifinals (Grant Taylor, CJ Collins, Kalle Berglind, Ivan Federico, Danny Leon, Robin Bolian and Rune Glifberg). Unfortunately young sensation Marcel Cama didn t make the cut as well as Swedish smooth operator Aron Buzas, see full results below. The day ended with big concerts for all and competitors BBQ behind the ruins to keep the vibes high. Stay tuned for finals day today and if you can t make it, check out the live webcast from 4pm CET lakanterapro.com Also don t miss the shenanigans and behind the scenes @volcomskate #lakanterapro

Volcom is proud to announce its VOLCOM X Georgia May Jagger premiere collection.
Volcom and Georgia May Jagger announce the premiere launch of Volcom x GMJ. Georgia May together with Volcom brand ambassadors Tina Kunakey, other hand-picked guests, and media celebrated the launch of Volcom x GMJ line at Pavillon Puebla in the heart of the Buttes-Chaumont Park in Paris. The event featured a Volcom x Georgia May Jagger pop-up shop, a complimentary custom screen-printed t-shirt stand, a vintage analog photobooth, open bar and an incredible music selection spinning nonstop. Guests danced all night long to a four DJ lineup. The night kicked off with Josephine De La Baume, followed by DJ tube and DJ Lube and Siobhan Bell. Josh Ludlow wrapped the night for Georgia and a full dance floor (only after extending his set an extra twenty minutes by crowd demand). Pavillon Puebla held a packed house, when the night shut down no one wanted to leave and we couldn't be happier about it. Check out party photos and video:

Week 10: White Night "Dirty Water" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 10: White Night - "Dirty Water"   Grab the free download When attempting to describe the Fullerton / Anaheim, CA quintet, White Night (to those who have yet to give them a listen), one may face a challenge. Are they punk? Are they psychedelic? Are they attempting to go back to the days when pop or even pop-punk weren’t insulting things to be compared to? Or are they just plain ol' good time, hard-nosed rock and roll? The truth of the matter is that White Night is all of these things and more. While more bands are working to blur the traditional boundaries of nearly every genre, White Night fully embodies that melting pot sound which is reinvigorating rock and roll and its many sub-genres today. Like many bands that came before them, White Night was conceived as a way to meet girls. Guitarist and vocalist Frank Agnew, bassist and vocalist Jon Raines and drummer Mike Gonzales had previously played in bands embedded in the Orange County hardcore scene. But it wasn’t the best scene within which to reach girls, so they switched things up. "White Night started playing in mid-2008," says Jon. "Two of us had been playing together for a few years before that in Pterodacdudes and the Frank-fronted Shred Savage for about the same amount of time. Both bands were on the heavier side and we thought it would be cool to play stuff more pop-influenced and maybe more girls would come to the shows. The new sound soon found a home with their friends at Burger Records. "Sean and Lee are friends from way back," explains Jon. "Mike played in Thee Makeout Party for a bit and we've all been roommates at one point or another." The label would release White Night’s debut cassette Tour EP in 2009 which was followed by Immortal cassette in 2010, and most recently their full length album Weird Night in 2016. The band including Troy Rounsevllie on keyboard and Kevin Carle on guitar are working on their next record. They are also anticipating their first tour in Japan. Tour starts on July 20 and all Japanese dates are with Lenguas Largas from Tucson, Arizona. July 21 - Yokosuka Fuck Yeah w/ Mule Team, EXTRA PLANTS July 22 - Shimokitazawa Basement Bar (daytime show) w/ Number Two July 23 - Ashikaga Soundhouse Pico w/ Broken Mountain July 24 - Waseda ZONE-B July 27 - Tokushima w/ Silver Wigs July 28 - Osaka w/ Sanhose July 29 - Kyoto w/ Sanhose Catch up on previous week's releases: Week 1: The Side Eyes "Cat Call" Week 2: The High Curbs "Empty Bottles" Week 3: VAJJ "Honey Pie" Week 4: Wyatt Blair "Pop Your Heart Out" Week 5: The Flytraps "Female of the Species" Week 6: Hammered Satin "Upward Spiral" Week 7: Death Valley Girls "Born Again and Again" Week 8: Vision "Light" Week 9: Meow Twins "Ratchet Witch"

Week 9: Meow Twins "Ratchet Witch" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 9: Meow Twins - "Ratchet Witch"   Grab the free download Meow Twins are another great young band to emerge from the early days of Burger Records. Formed with two singers, aka Meow Twins, Candra Edwards and Lily Stretz linked together when they were freshman and sophomores in high school. Today, they are creating some of the most refreshingly unique and individually-sounding punk rock. The band was originally formed with the two singers, calling themselves "Twins" a la Meow Twins, though they are not actual twin sisters... more like cosmic, spiritual twins. Lily has put down the microphone and picked up the bass while Candra continues to hold down the lead vocals. They are joined by Ez Kramer on drums and Zaine Drayton on guitar, and currently call Long Beach, CA home. "In 2010 we started just going to shows at their record shop and then kinda met them I guess," says Lily. "We had friends that got on the label first and then kinda hooked us up," says Candra. "We were playing there too and setting up shows with our bands," explains Lily. "Most of the shows we went to there were shows we set up," adds Candra. Those who experienced Burger shop shows know what type of scene would gather. Zaine adds, "They had shows about twice a week. FREE shows twice a week!" Sean from Burger tells it like this: "Meow Twins were regulars at our record shop shows during the early years of our Fullerton store. They started as fans and before long started their own band and released their debut cassette (sold out, stream it on Spotify) on Burger Records! Double female punk vocals with a punk pedigree featuring the daughter of Corey Stretz of J.F.A.! Loud, fast and out of control, this band has been and will always be one of our favorites around here." They were also playing bigger shows at Burger events. There is one favorite show that sticks out. "Burger a Go-Go because you get free burgers," says Lily. "Best Coast played too," adds Ez. In February 2016, Meow Twins released their second Burger full length, Skin, and the band plans to hit the U.S. on tour this July, so keep an eye out for tour dates coming soon! Catch up on previous week's releases: Week 1: The Side Eyes "Cat Call" Week 2: The High Curbs "Empty Bottles" Week 3: VAJJ "Honey Pie" Week 4: Wyatt Blair "Pop Your Heart Out" Week 5: The Flytraps "Female of the Species" Week 6: Hammered Satin "Upward Spiral" Week 7: Death Valley Girls "Born Again and Again" Week 8: Vision "Light"
