Stop #5 of Volcom Stone’s Peanut Butter And Rail Jam pointed its compass north of the boarder and landed at Blue Mountain, ON Canada on Saturday February 7, 2015

The contest site was littered with PBRJ enthusiasts for this 13th annual event!

Canadians seem to have a total different way of looking at things, which lead to some of the most interesting action of the 2015 PBRJ tour thus far.  Multiple riders had custom shaped snowboards, one rider was laying it down on a swallowtail powder board and another rider showed up in a 3 piece suit along with his snowboard inside a briefcase.  Just when you think that you have seen everything, someone’s ready to throw a curve ball.  Mother nature pitched her own curve ball as a weather system rolled in to drop a high rate of snow throughout the day.  The non-goggle steez had riders squinting like a grandparents trying to read a sight chart.   Regardless of these testing conditions, competitors continued to put down heavy tricks like a sw bs 360 50-50 on the down square bar in zone 3, a plethora of spin in spin out maneuvers on the flat tube in zone 2, and got technical with tricks like a nose press fs 360 out on the elevated shark fin rail in zone 1.  It was a battle to the end to see who would walk away with the top spot in each division.

15_Mason_3

Mason Corrie was determined to throw this sw bs 360 50-50 in zone 3. He made multiple attempts throughout his heat and managed to squeak a solid make in before the buzzer. This timely manuver was a highlight of the event and earned him Electric California’s $50 “Gooyest Move of the Event.”

15_Liam_1

9-Year-Old Liam Brearly was punishing the course on all fronts. Here he puts down a twisted boardslide pretzel out on the zone 1 shark fin rail. He stood out amongst the crowd for 2nd place in the 15 & Under Division.

15_Koven_3

Sam Koven linking into a sw fs boardslide to fakie on the down square bar in zone 3. His overall ripping allowed the judges to give him the green light on a winning performance.

16_Stormgaard_2

Per Stormgaard sits comfortably on his back foot across the tube in zone 2. Look closely at his front foot and you will see the Canadian four-leaf clover eh?

16_Austin_3

We are still not sure if Austin Johnson missed a trick all day long. Every time he entered an exited a zone he was solidly on his board. Here he front blunts 180 switch up to fakie in zone 3. His consistency and assortment of tricks landed him in the top spot for the 16 – 21 Division.

G_Kiranjit_2

Kiranjit Phagurha has one of the most difficult names to pronounce throughout the North American PBRJ tour. However, she makes it easy to get excited about snowboarding tricks like this lipslide in zone 2. She also stomped a fs boardslide after time for the crowd on hand. Everyone was hyped!

G_Amber_3

Amber Moffatt flexed out her tail on the square tube in zone 3. The dudes where a little intimidated on how properly she held it to the end.

Jesse Clipperton, Dan Milligan, Dave Wright, Tarik Elmas, and Ryan Caesar snap a quick group shot just before finals.

O_Poechman_2

Ben Poechman added a touch of flair to everything that he did. He stood out with tricks like this properly executed fs bluntslide in zone 2 and a straight on raillie nose press in zone 1. He looked like he was having more fun than everyone and received the $100 Rev’d Rider Award and 5th place to boot.

O_Bowler_3

Geoffrey Bowler spots a hw fs 270 sw bs lipslide in zone 2. Strikes like this helped him turkey for 4th in the Open/Am Division… Yes, that was a bowling joke.

O_Hall_1

Gordon Hall had one of the most technical tricks of the day with a sw nose press fs 360 out in zone 1. It was definitely one we will remember for a long time.

O_Glibota_3

Daniel Glibota knew that there was a chance of snow and brought his swallowtail powder board to plow through. He also showed us that he can still rip rails no matter what he has under his feet with tricks like this bs 360 50-50 in zone 3. We figured that he should have a new shred stick and awarded him a brand new Volcom snowboard to go with his 2nd place Open Division/AM placement.

O_coco_1

"I'm in love with the CoCo” Conway was on fire throughout the day with switch and regular combinations on all features. He was the only person to squarely bs 270 to fakie the tall flat rail in zone 1 as pictured above. It was a no brainer to award him with his 2nd consecutive Open/AM Division PBRJ victory at Blue Mountain Resort.

We would like to thank Erika Langman and Ben Carleton from Blue Mountain Resort for all their hard work hosting us for the 13th year at Blue Mountain.  Thank you to Matt Konnings and the entire park crew for staying up through the late hours of the night to sculpt a fun and trickable PBRJ contest site.  Big thanks to our Co-MC Jesse Clipperton for his work on the mic. Thanks to our attentive judging panel of Dave Wright, Ryan Caesar, Dane Milligan, and Gary Munce for watching all the action.  Thanks to Tarik Elmas, Natalie Lozeau, and Ben Cousins for crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s throughout the event.  Thank you to our tour sponsors, listed below, for their dedication to the PBRJ and the youth of action sports.

Volcom Snow's The Launch - Watch Now!
Last month our Volcom Snow ams, better known as the Stone Army crew, loaded up the RV and charged up to Bear Mountain for Snowboarder Magazine’s ninth annual The Launch 2016 presented by Volcom. The Launch is an assembly of age 21 and under riders handpicked by the Snowboarder Magazine crew for a 4 day media shred frenzy, and this year it was brought back to the San Bernadino mountains and constructed by the Bear Mountain crew full of endless rails, transition and kicker possibilities. Despite some windy, blizzard, and sometimes great conditions the boys were on fire with non-stop bell-to-bell action! When it was all said and done, Brock Crouch was awarded Standout and 10 yr old Aussie Valentino Guseli took home the Super Grom award for charging almost every feature in the park! Austrian Rider Roli Tschoder stretches his back leg over the Kaunertal access road
Here’s a short edit showing how amazing the conditions are up at Kaunertal Glacier right now, only 40 minutes from the Volcom Snow Team house. There’s hardly anyone around, aside from the like-minded, the park is in mint condition, you can ride from 3200 to 2000m and there’s even pow on offer. Way better conditions now  than in December/January.  Roli from Ischgl certainly has his priorities straight.. But unless you can ride like Roli, the we recommend you spare the stretching until you’re safely back on the ground again.  Now run to the hills… Pic and edit by Flo Achenrainer

Retrospection video by Olivier Gittler and Arthur Longo
If you plan on only seeing ONE snowboard video this year, then here you have it. Volcom lifer Olivier Gittler and his trusty collaborator Arthur Longo just put together a full length edit of all their Instagram short clips from the winter past.. In it you’ll see their unique take on snowboarding. And as you’ll watch you’ll slowly realise that “higher and further”’ isn’t always the goal. That it is just as much about the right turn at the right place at the right time. Or a backflip? And another backflip.. Backflips are never wrong. At times it might even look like the boys are bored with their day job (?!?) as they seem to be surfing more than snowboarding. But why not? Therein lies the beauty of this edit.. Get out off the park and look at what’s hidden behind it.  Or even IN it, as you follow our friends and their friends, finding park lines yet to be thought of.. Or making their own park outside of the park.. This is truly beautiful Olivier .. Please do even more of what you’re already doing.  Filmed on location in Les Des Alpes, Kitzsteinhorn, Chamonix, US Open, Arlberg and more Music: Leopard Ale IG: @leopard_ale
